  17. <p>     Where there's smoke, there's fire. And these days where
  18. there's fire, there's Ron Howard. The director was on Capitol
  19. Hill last week testifying about the need to increase funding for
  20. fire-fighter training. His concern stems from his filming of a
  21. hot new drama, Backdraft, about two fire-fighting brothers. Many
  22. of the cast were actual fire fighters whose work with the film
  23. infernos made him more appreciative of their everyday risks.
  24. "Fire fighters have this corny but wonderful code based on
  25. self-sacrifice," Howard says. "They're not complainers, even
  26. though there is plenty working against them."
